Return of the Firefox effect

Some years ago I was enthralled by glitchy images when I browsed the internet

On this blog I dubbed it the "Firefox effect" and that might've been misleading, although it's where I usually see this result.

Today I was using an older laptop and saw it again, with this being one of the glitched pics on my feed that caught my eye.

One of the few things I miss about dial-up internet is the glitchy effects that would sometimes appear on photographs and also occasionally in downloaded videos too.

I've posted some of the results previously, using the label 'Firefox effect' since it seemed to start once I updated my browser to version three.

So I was excited to see this Image Glitch Experiment, an online tool for generating similar results.

The author is Georg Fischer and I think it's great to see someone taking the destructive path and mangling images to create beautifully random results.

Another Firefox cut-up, really liking this effect. Pic from Nottingham Forest, where I was surprised to find a couple of fans.

Beauty in dial-up

This is an image from Boing Boing that's been given the Firefox 3 on dial-up treatment. It's a cool effect, wonder what it looks like on naked women?
